Mesothelioma Attorneys Support Fundraiser for Lung Cancer Research

(PRWEB) October 14, 2011

For the past 30 years, Jack Clapper, founding attorney for Clapper Patti Schweizer & Mason, has been exclusively representing clients suffering from a particularly rare and fatal type of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure called malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). To date, standard treatments for this type of lung cancer have not been very effective and there is no cure- many diagnosed do not survive the year.

Like all the partners at the firm, Clapper searches for ways to participate in fundraisers that support studies exploring better treatments for mesothelioma and other types of lung cancer. The next local fundraiser is the Porsche Race Car Classic held at Quail Lodge in Carmel, CA this coming Sunday, October 16, 2011. All net proceeds from the ticket sales to this event will go directly to the UCSF Thoracic Oncology Program and the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation.

Lung cancer statistics are staggering, and the need for on-going research crucial. Lung cancer is the leading cause of all other cancer deaths (more than breast, prostate, colon, liver, melanoma and kidney cancers combined) and yet receives the least amount of funding. Nearly twenty people in the United States die each hour from lung cancer, and approximately 3,000 people each year are diagnosed with mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a global cancer and current concern due to the historical widespread use of asbestos containing materials, long latency period between time of exposure and development of symptoms, and continued use in less developed parts of the world.

The UCSF Thoracic Oncology Program has doctors who specialize in mesothelioma treatment, beginning with goal of finding ways to diagnose the cancer in early stages. One particular area being studied by V. Courtney Broaddus, MD, Professor in the Department of Medicine and Associate Director of the Lung Biology Center at UCSF, is how apoptosis, the process of cell death, can be used to slow or stop the progression of mesothelioma tumor growth. The Thoracic Oncology Program at UCSF is dedicated to conquering lung cancer and provided the highest of patient care and treatment.

The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation also has the mission of raising awareness and money for lung cancer research, connecting leaders in the field, scientists, researchers and physicians worldwide with the goal of finding better treatment options. They support all efforts to find ways to survival rates through early detection, genetic testing, and drug discovery.

Join with CPSM and the other expected 3,500 guests in the fight against mesothelioma and all types of lung cancer. Come enjoy beautiful Carmel, view classic Porsche cars, hear the history of Porsche racing direct from the drivers themselves, sample local gourmet food and wines all with the collective intention of improving the outcomes of those at risk of and/or diagnosed with lung cancer and helping save lives.

(PRWEB) October 17, 2011

The Mesothelioma Victims Center is the premier advocate for mesothelioma victims in the United States. The Mesothelioma Victims Center is the only group, or organization that will offer an individual, or family dealing with a mesothelioma cancer diagnosis the names, and specific contacts of the most competent, and successful mesothelioma attorneys, or trial law firms in the nation. The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, “If an individual, or family is trying to figure out what to do after a mesothelioma diagnosis, we should be the first call they make. Aside from providing the family with the specific contacts for the best, and brightest mesothelioma attorneys in the United States, we also offer numerous other free services. One of our most popular free service is a personalized mesothelioma treatment options report, that includes the specific names, and contacts of the best oncology cancer treatment groups in the specific area of the victim. We will also work closely with family members to educate them as to how to best take care of their loved one, who is dealing with mesothelioma. Again, no other group offers these types of free services. Individuals, or family members dealing with the what to do after a mesothelioma diagnosis can call the Mesothelioma Victims Center anytime at 866-714-6466.” http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

Why does the Mesothelioma Victims Center mention US Navy Veterans so frequently in its press releases? The group says, “This year between 2000 & 3000 US citizens will be diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. Of this group, about one third will be US Navy Veterans. The reason our group is so passionate about mesothelioma is because we lost a close loved one to mesothelioma, who was also a US Navy Veteran.” http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

Aside from US Navy Veterans, other high risk groups for mesothelioma cancer include shipyard, power plant, or oil refinery workers, plumbers, electricians, county, or city municipal water district workers, miners, demolition construction contractors, railroad workers, or auto brake technicians. The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, “You do not need to be a US Navy Veteran to take advantage of our free service. We encourage anyone in the US to call us if they, or their family are dealing with a mesothelioma diagnosis.” They say, “One thing we really want families to understand is mesothelioma cancer does not typically show up until the Navy Veteran or US citizen is in their 60′s, and more often than not their 70′s, or 80′s. Frequently mesothelioma is diagnosed three, four, or even five decades after the exposure to asbestos.” http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

Transvaginal Surgical Mesh Lawsuits Website Launched by Hissey Kientz Law Firm

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 27, 2011

The law firm of Hissey Kientz, LLP is announcing the launch of its new website, Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit (http://www.transvaginalmeshpatchlawsuit.com/). The site will serve as a source for legal news and medical information for patients who have experienced complications caused by surgical mesh used in transvaginal repair surgery.

Transvaginal mesh is a type of surgical mesh device which is used for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinent (SUI). Versions of the patch are manufactured by several different companies, including Johnson & Johnson, C.R. Bard, Boston Scientific and American Medical Systems (AMS). According to the Food and Drug Administration, about 80% of surgeries for SUI and 25% of surgeries for POP are performed using transvaginal mesh.

The FDA has issued several warnings about the risk of complications from transvaginal mesh. In September 2011, an FDA advisory committee recommended that the product should be given a stronger warning label due to the risk of side effects from the device. The committee was charged with reviewing the safety of transvaginal mesh after the FDA learned that reports of complications from the device had a five-fold increase compared to the previous three year period.

According to FDA data, the most frequently reported complication of transvaginal mesh is vaginal mesh erosionin which the skin tissue becomes split, allowing mesh to protrude into the vagina. Other commonly reported side effects of surgical mesh include pain, bleeding, infection, pain during sex, urinary problems and organ perforation.

A number of patients who received transvaginal mesh to treat POP or SUI have required additional surgeries to correct problems with the device or to have it removed entirely. A total of at least 600 transvaginal mesh lawsuits have already been filed by patients who experienced severe pain or other complications from surgical mesh, according to Bloomberg News.

If you or a loved one received transvaginal mesh for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse and have experienced severe pain or other complications from the device, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit.
